I
was a latecomer to Shadow of the Colossus, and while it felt a bit strange playing a PS2 game with the Xbox360 nearby—a console with superior graphics—five minutes in and I couldn’t care less.

Shadow of the Colossus is breathtaking; the story is simple, yet epic; the gameplay is built on the sheer epicness of it all, and do I really have to go into the music, too? (Because the music is awesome as well). This game was (and continues to be) a breath of fresh air after all the graphic-heavy games I had been playing; it proves that the existence of a classic game is not built on graphics (because man, do they advance every few years or so); it is built on storytelling.

I’m glad that I ignored the questioning look a friend gave me when he saw me take it to the cashier, and I’m glad that my PS2 continues to be in working condition so that I can replay it over and over again as Shadow of the Colossus is definitely one of—if not, is—my favorite games of all time.
